For this story we go to South Africa where the heroine has jointly inherited a farm from her grandmother. Her partner is Heinie, a rather lazy weak willed young man who would rather be raising horses than sugar cane. The hero, Darval, is the neighbour, a man with ambition and in some peoples eyes, no scruples in getting what he wants.This is essentially a sweet romance in an exotic setting for the time.
