To all fans of classical music and to those who love piano CDs inparticular...Do you love a piano concerto? You know you've heardsomething very special; quite out of the ordinary when you've listenedto any from concert pianist Joshua Pierce's discography, whether solo ortwo-piano. I've personally found his recordings to be unusually probing, just tremendous and always unique. So, naturally I was elated uponhearing a brand new release from MSR Classics - his MS 1464 featuring anall Russian disc; including all my favorites: Tchaikovsky 1st,Rimsky-Korsakov, Khachaturian, Shostakovich 2nd and Prokofieff 1st. Boy, I cantell you that this is a real find! And if you love your Beethoven, J SBach, Brahms (the 1st is an unbelievable "live recording" and the 2ndis a whole knock-out experience) Liszt and Hindemith you won't bedisappointed either. His Schubert solo recordings are something elseagain, too. Discovering an artist of Joshua Pierce's stature andartistry is a true gift all the way around. His dramatic strength, hisexpressiveness and lightness of touch and beauty of phrasing isoutstanding and is quite simply on a par with the likes of a Horowitz,Rubenstein or Ashkenazi. This is how strongly I feel about his playing.I have so thoroughly enjoyed his recordings over the years, finding themto be a constant and enriching experience. His style breathes life intothe music and draws you into every nuance and style of phrasing. I endup wondering "is there any other way to interpret this?" I hope you will find hismusic as delightful as I do.
